Water Baptism

‘”Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”‘
Matthew 28:19-20

‘We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.’ Romans 6:4

  • We believe that baptising believers is something that Jesus commands.
  • Because the word, ‘baptise’ comes from a Greek word used in dyeing cloth, we believe that baptism should include being fully immersed in the water.
  • We believe that baptism is an important step in being a follower of Jesus. Ideally it should be the first step of obedience after salvation, but we encourage all believers amongst us to be baptised even if they have been Christians for a while.
  • We believe and teach that baptism is a symbol of death and resurrection. It shows that our old life has died and our new life in Christ has begun.
  • The New Testament does not imagine such a thing as a believer who is not baptised, and so it is encouraged and instructed in all the early churches. We seek to continue this practice.
  • We celebrate baptisms! It’s a great encouragement and joy to everyone when a believer takes this step of obedience to the Lord.
