Salvation

‘And there is salvation in no-one else [but Jesus], for there is no other name under heaven given to among men by which we must be saved.’ Acts 4:12

Saved from sin

We believe that God is the highest authority in the whole world. Therefore we believe what He says.

The Bible tells us that the relationship between God and people has been spoiled by ‘sin’ – this is when we live our lives our own way without regard for God’s standards or God’s authority. It’s when we don’t live up to God’s standard.

We believe (and indeed, we know from experience) that in our own abilities, we simply cannot make ourselves acceptable to God; we can never be good enough.

Saved from judgement

But we also believe that God has made a way for people to become acceptable. He has decided that one sacrifice, once and for all, will clear all our sin away and make us worthy to be friends with God Himself.

We believe that sacrifice was made by Jesus when He died on the cross all those years ago. We believe that if someone puts their confidence in the sacrifice that Jesus made, then God will judge them according to Jesus’ life and standard, not according to their own.

This is what we call ‘salvation’, because it means we are saved from God’s judgement and included in His family. All our sins are forgiven because Jesus sacrificed His own life.

What must I do to be saved?

We believe and teach that anyone can be forgiven and receive a welcome into God’s family if they decide to stop living life their own way and start trusting that what Jesus did on the cross is enough to save them. The Bible calls this ‘repentance and faith’:

  • ‘Repentance’ means turning away from your old way of living, asking God to forgive you for not coming up to His standard.
  • ‘Faith’ in this context means choosing to believe that you are forgiven because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.

This is what ‘salvation’ means. It means we are made acceptable to God.¬†We then commit the rest of our lives to becoming more like Jesus in our attitudes and practice.

We believe it’s very important to tell people this truth so that they can have the opportunity to become acceptable to God and be part of His wonderful family. If you would like to know more about this, or have decided that you want to become a Christian, please do get in touch with us.
