Tithing
'They only want your money!' A cry most often heard from those who do not understand why we give to God and the work done by his Church. The word 'tithe' means a tenth. 'How much?', I hear you say. Well what else do you spend your money on?
Tithing or giving a tenth of your income to God's work is not a new idea. The Jews gave tithes. We all pay taxes, and we all expect schools, healthcare and defence, but no-one likes paying tax! But what if the money you gave went to help people find peace with God, find a new hope for living life, and to share this with as many people as possible - surely that's a good thing - you might even want to give more than a tenth.
We encourage tithing in the church because we believe it is a biblical principle which releases resources for the work of God, and unlocks heaven’s resources into the life of the giver.
Of course the Bible also speaks of making offerings – gifts that are over and above the tithe, and we practise this too. The truth is, everything we have is God’s, not ours, so let’s be generous.
Mal 3:10
'"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it."'
