Serving

To serve or to be served - that is the question!? - It would be great if someone would just clear that pile of ironing, or do the months of filing that's been put off at the office. We all want someone to do the mundane things in life for us. But serving is not about getting someone to serve you - it is about you serving others.
Like 'grace', serving is sacrificing self wants and needs for those of others - not because they deserve it and sometimes not because you particularly feel like it - but because you choose to!
So why would you choose to? When we could not see our own need of God he saw our need - for forgiveness and a whole new life free of the bondage of selfishness. His answer was to serve - he did everything for others benefit - event to the point of dying for us all.
Service is not something we should ever do because someone else says we should do it - no, it has to start as a decision in us to meet the needs of others before those of ourselves, because we want to show the same kind of love that God has shown us.
One of the biggest blocks to serving is thinking that something is beneath us, that we are too important to put out chairs, serve cups of coffee or do something that does not get us the recognition due to us - serving is not about inflating your importance.
Gal 5:13
'But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve on another in love. the entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbour as yourself".'
