Salvation
‘All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace, through the redemption that came by Jesus Christ.’ (Romans 3:23,24)
‘Salvation is found in no-one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.’ (Acts 4:12)
We all know that the truth is that we can’t be righteous or holy all the time by our own efforts. The Bible calls this problem ‘sin’ – it means anything and everything that is lower than God’s own standard in our lives.
It’s not just the obvious things like lying or stealing or committing murder, it’s all the ways in which we don’t live like God himself. Sin separates us from God, because he can’t have it in his presence. So we need help!
In Church Alive, we know that this help is in Jesus Christ. When Jesus died on the cross, it was as a willing sacrifice for the sin of the whole world. So when we put our trust in Jesus’ sacrifice, our sins are forgiven by God.
This is what it means to be ‘saved’. It means we are made acceptable to God. Then the rest of our lives, we are committed to becoming more and more like Jesus in our attitudes and practice.
