Prayer

Prayer is at the heart of our life together.

Praying for each other is a normal part of life, asking for God’s help and direction in all the things we face each day. We keep ourselves informed of local, national and international issues facing both society and the church, so that we can pray intelligently about these.

This might be in our own devotional times, in homegroups or in our prayer meetings.

Prayer Meeting

Every four weeks, the homegroups come together to pray at the Ledbury Centre. During these times we have learnt to pray in different ways. It might be that we break up into groups, meditate on certain scriptures and base our prayers on them or interact with prayer stations. We have been learning to pray short one sentence prayers when praying out loud and also to spend time praying and seeking God in silence. Other times we have prayer walks in the local area, asking washing line prayersGod to bless the neighbourhood.

Time With God

A couple of times a year we have a 24 hour stint when the Ledbury Centre is open for people to spend some time with God. People sign up for slots of an hour or two and we find that the time is easily covered with some people praying for much longer particularly through the night.

The rooms are transformed with plenty of beanbags and throws. People can light candles, play CDs and write on the wall – actually on flipchart paper that we blu-tack on the wall – or write or draw prayers and peg them on a washing line. We make a variety art material available for those who want to be more adventurous.

How people spend their time is entirely up to them but we provide a number of installations with visual prompts, creative activities and suggestions for prayer. There are always a number of testimonies about what people feel that God has shown them during these times.
