Karis Neighbour Scheme

Church Alive works closely with a local charity called Karis Neighbour Scheme. We have members who work for this charity and others who are on the board of directors and some in the church who volunteer in their spare time.

Karis Neighbour Scheme aims to serve the local community in this deprived inner city area of Birmingham. Karis co-ordinates a large number of volunteers who serve the community working in several projects in the neighbourhood including:

  • a free service of advocacy and advice & guidance
  • a befriending scheme where volunteers offer their time to chat to usually elderly members of the neighbourhood
  • DIY or gardening for local residents
  • collecting food in a store cupboard to give out as food parcels for those in need
  • a community allotment project
  • a social group for asylum seekers and refugees and others new to the country and free ESOL classes too

As a church we are proud to support this charity that works hard alleviating some of the effects of poverty in our neighbourhood.
